Purchases In New Zealand
Because of lower prices for merino wool Australian sheep-breeders are reported to be paying more attention to the production of fat lambs and are at present keen to obtain good Southdown stock from New Zealand, Several purchases have recently been made through Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd. Two members of the Reso party of Australian farmers recently in New Zealand, Messrs. D. K. McMillan, Victoria, and R. Champness. Western Australia, have bought from Ellis Bros.’ Killymoon stud, . Bpils, 150 high-class one-shear' Southdown ewes ,in lamb to Ford Cru- . sader,. an imported ram. Fifty one-shear Southdown ewes have been bought by a South Australian breeder from Mr. R. M; Perry, Masterton. . Twelve Southdown ewes from Mr. A. E. Weld, Marlborough, and 40 Ryeland ewes, . some from Mr. M. S. Chambers, Havelock North, are to form the nucleus of two studs in Victoria. The same breeder is also buying 60 Southdown ram lambs to mate with his merino sheep for the production of fat lambs. Mr. R. F. Cooper, Perjh, Western Australia, has also conie to New Zealand for ewes to found a Southdown stud near Albany.
