NATIONAL FLAVOUR
This Week’s “Radio Record” With the rapid growth of the “Radio Record” in recent months, magazine production in New Zealand seems to have entered on a new phase. The “Record’s” achievement shows that New Zealand can bring out a magazine with purely national characteristics and a flavour that is fresh and stimulating. This week’s issue tells of a band of Auckland musicians who have formed an association to protect themselves from the non-paying host and hostess. “Too long,” they say, “have performing musicians given their services like performing seals for a fish sandwich 1” Emile tells the story of a young New Zealander who has roamed the world, made films in Spain and fought with Franco’s army. Gordon Mirams has a page of wit and laughter on the films, and Sari gives his views on how the Little Theatre movement can win and hold its New Zealand public. “Passing Pageant.” by Trevor Lane, the “Film Record” by Gordon Mirams, and “This World of burs'’ by John Guthrie complete a good issue.
