BODY IN EVANS BAY
Missing Wellington Solicitor Tiie body of Mr. F. E. McDonald, 2 Raupo Street, Hataitai, solicitor, was found yesterday at 1.40 p.m. in Evans Bay. Mr. H. Tibbs. 452 Evans Bay Road, saw the body floating face, downward in shallow water by the clubhouse of the Evans Bay Yacht and Motor Boat Club when he was swimming there, and he reported the' matter to the Kilbirnie police. Mr. McDonald left his home at 7 p.m. on Friday. At 9 p.m. he rang a friend, it was stated, and told him that he was catching the Limited express to connect with tiie Ma tai, at Auckland.
The body was identified as that of the missing man yesterday afternoon. Mr. McDonald, who was born in Wellington, was a returned soldier and was away from New Zealand be tween the years 1914 and 1919. He had a fine war record and was twice mentioned in dispatches. When he returned he was accountant for the Mutual Life and Citizens’ Assurance Company at Wellington, and in H l -”’ he joined Mr. A. B. Croker after be had completed his solicitor’s examinations. He became a barrister in 1927 and was in partnership with Mr. Croker until 1933, when he became a partner in the legal firm of McDonald, Foster and Watterson. Latterly he was practising on his own account hi Courtenay Place and was chairman of directors of tiie Courtenay Place Investment Company. For several years he was a member of. the executive of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association. He was a strong swimmer and a keen bowler. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. E. J. McDonald.
