Senior Championship Averages KILBIRNIE’S GOOD FIGURES The averages of the Kilbirnie Cricket Club's Brst eleven, winner of the 'Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship for the 1937-38 season, reveal how consistently the players performed. The batting averages are headed by S. I Ward, who aggregated 012 runs in 13 | innings, nt the solid average of 64.20. ‘ Next comes W. G. Bain, with 380 runs in nine innings, at an average of 42.22. W. . J. It. Christopherson (the captain), W. I S. Coltman and H. I’’. Rice, all have averages over 30, and O. S. Wrigley is close up with 29. The outstanding bowler on the side was D. 8. Wilson, who captured 51 wicI kets at the low average of 13.01. He was well supported by J. Ashendeu, who took 32 wickets at an average of 16.75. Had this fine bowler not been injured half-way through the season, Kilbirnie would have done even better, H, F. Rice, who captured 24 wickete at an average of 20.33, was one of the stock bowlers of the side, as he sent down 145 overs. Century Partnership, Seven.—Rice and Ward, 209, v. Varsity; Wrigley and Christopherson 180, v. Institute; Coltman and Chrlstophersen 149, v. Wellington; Ward and Lubransky 142, v. Karori; Ward and Rice 126, v. Wellington; Ward and Chrlstophersen 109, v. Karori; Rice and Coltnian 108,v. Old Boys. There were 13 partnerships of 50 and over. Hutt Club The Hutt chib’s senior team, which gainer (fifth place on the championship ladder, had some good individual players, but the majority of the batsmen failed to strike form. The batting averages are headed by E. J. Aim, who aggregated 290 in eight visits to the wickets, giving him the good average of 48.33. He was well supported by E. <jr. MciLeod, R. J. Kemp, B. R. Ross, and' J. J. Cheevers. The best bowlev on the side was O. A. Muir, who sent down 222 overs to capture, 45 Wickets, at an average of 19.53. B. J. Ch'ampness also did well with the ball, his bag consisting of 40 wickets at an average of 22.72. These two bowlers | had practically to carry the side on their shoulders as far as the bowling department was concerned. The complete batting and bowling averages are as follows: — I

Wellington Club The Wellington club, although possessing a strong first eleven on paper, performed disappointingly this season, and dropped to sixth position on the championship table. The weakness of the s|do lay in the batting, as only M. Thomas, J. Ell, and R. T. Morgan shaped at all consistently. Thomas heads the list for both aggregate and average having scored 592 runs at. an average of 37. Ell is close up with 594 runs, at an average of !>O, while Morgan aggregated 460, at an avei-1 age of 28.75. E. D. Blundell stands out as by far the best bowler hi the team. He sent down in all 225.6 overs for 883 rung and 53 wickets, whieh gives him the good average of 1.6.66. R. J. Morrissey aiid R. T. Morgan both secured over 20 wickets, but here Wellington's bowling strength ended, Following are the complete butting mid bowling averages for the season:—
