Remuera Shipment Arrives

Arrivals of New Zealand apples by the Remuera were well received by the trade, especially the Cox’s Orange, which opened up in excellent condition. Prices are but fair in view of the flat state of the market, which is saturated with end of the season American and Canadian fruit. Stocks of these fruits are not only high but shipments are still arriving and are much heavier than at the same -time last year. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated April 1: — Fruit: Remuera shipment discharged. The following are the market values of sound conditioned fruit of the varieties mentioned, the range of prices generally representing the difference between the several grades and/or counts. Variable . conditioned fruit of similar varieties proI portionately less in value. Cox's Orange apples, 13/-, 17/-; Worcester Pearman. Alfriston, 8/-, 10/-; Gravenstein, 7/-, 8/-. Gold Mining Returns Gillespie’s Beach reports, that the dredgemaster has stopped the dredge to replace some timbers in the main framing. This work will take probably a week- to complete. Ely Telegraph—Press Association. . I) Dunedin, April 4. The Clutha River dredge return was 1430 z. for 122 hours’ work, The Okarito dredge washed up 270 z. Bdwt. for 98 hours. Auckland, April 4. The Mataki dredge return for the week ended April 3 was 28oz. for 133 hours’ work and 7200 cubic yards. During March a total of 33,340 cubic yards was treated for a return of 1350 z. 12dwt. Ggr. Australian Price Of Gold The price fixed by the Commonwealth Bank for gold, including jewellery, lodged at the Melbourne Mint for tlie week ended March 24 wtm at the rate of approximately £8 per ounce standard (22 carate), equal to a premium of 105.45 per cent. Payment is made according to the assay value of the gold. The price was 6d. per ounce higher on the week. The price per ounce fine was £B/14/6}, ‘which was 6}d. per ounce higher on the week. Imperial Chemicals Record Profit The decision of Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., to increase its dividend by one half of one per cent, to 8} per cent, provided a tonic for the London stock market. The company’s net profit reached a new record at £7,510,000. Gross profits expanded from £9,000,000 to more than £10,000,00, the defence contribution absorbing more than £1,000,000.
