The twelfth annual meeting of the Queen Mararet College Parents’ Association was held this week in the college hall, which was tastefully decorated for the occasion. Mr. 0. C. Mazengarb presided over a large attendance of parents and friends of the school. In speaking to the annual report, the chairman reviewed the activities of the association during the year, and paid a tribute to the principal, Miss Wilson, and her colleagues, for the care and thought given by them to the education of the girls. He then presented Miss Wilson with a bouquet. In responding, Miss Wilson mentioned that the school roll now stood at 250, and that parents desiring to enter younger daughters should do so early, as vacancies were limited. She stressed the added responsibilities involved in the maintenance of the high standard that Queen Margaret College nad set, and the need for the full support of parents., Miss Wilson mentioned that. 32 girls had been taught to swim during the year, and 81 had obtained life-saving awards. The school nad presented 13 girls for matriculation, and 11 had passed. In several subjects of the matriculation examination Queen Margaret girls had obtained the highest marks for the Wellington district. lu a review of the school curriculum, Miss Wilson pointed out the changes that had been made with a'view to Keeping pace with modern developments; and to giving the girl** alternative optional subjects to take--up on certain hours in the week. Miss Wilson, in conclusion, reminded parents that the college would celebrate its twenty-first birthday on May 9, 1940, and asked that thought be given to the provision of some worthy commemoration of that event.
On the motion of Mr. Andrew Fletcher, supported by Mr, B. L. Dallard, It was agreed that the committee be given power to admit parents of ex-pupils as J life members of the association on pay--1 meat of £l/1/-. Messrs. Andrew Fletcher and George Day applied for, and were admitted, amid acclamation, to life' membership. On behalf of the board.of governors, Mr, Dallard further expressed appreciation of Mr Fletcher’s generosity to the college. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. 0. C. Mazengarb; vicepresident, Mrs. J. S. Martin; secretarytreasurer, Mr. G. M. Pottinger; committee, Mesdames Appleton, Carson, Cooke, Cornish, Dallard, Duncan, Eichlehaum, Gapes, Gibson, Green, Lattey, Luke, Madden, Mantell-Harding, Marchbanks, Mazengarb, Monro, Morgan. Radford, Snpsford, Spratt and Wall: Messrs. . Flitch, Leeder and .Tones. Mrs. J. S. Martin and Mr. K. E. Luke were nominated as representatives on the board of governors. During the evening a programme of music arranged by Miss Hirst was much enjoyed. Songs were rendered by the boarders and by Miss Hirst, and piano solos played by Miss Horner. An enjoyable evening closed with the serving of coil’ee and sandwiches by the ladies of the committee.
