HAWERA TRACKS

Final Gallops Of Horses For Stratford Meeting Dominion Special Service. Ilawera, March 31. Most of the local horses for the Stratford meeting were given their final gallops on the Hawera tracks this morning. Conditions were ideal for fast work and the plough was in capital order, although it became faster as work progressed. The best efforts were credited Daisy Chain, Royal Fire, Lowenberg, .Student Prince, Golden Orchid and the two-year-olds Prime Quality and Dark Eagle. Daisy Chain (Pcpperill) reeled off half a mile soon after daybreak in 51. She had a little in reserve at the finish aud is iu great order. Golden Orchid (Sexton), who was accompanied over the first three furlongs by Ruling Lady (Fryer), traversed live furlongs iu .1.32, the first three in 37 4-5. Golden Orchid was a couple of lengths in front when her companion was pulled off, and she has gone on the right way since Opunakc. Notium (Cole) infused dash into a round of solid pacework, and was anxious to do better. Ho Will meet Race Call on much better terms on Saturday than at Awapuni last week. Trilitba (Sexton) and Fafner (Fryer) were associated over six furlongs in 1.17 4-5 after taking 51 for the first half. Lickem (Monkley) failed to impress in recording 39 for three furlongs. He is not hitting out in his customary style. Naughty Marietta (Sexton) began from

the six-furlong peg and, joined by Reo Ra (Fryer) at the completion of two furlongp, ran the full distance in I.lBs. The best gallop of the morning was credited to Lowenberg (Cole) aud Student Prince (Monkley), who wCre on terms throughout six furlongs in 1.16 2-5, after taking 50| for the first half mile. Both horses came home strongly. Dancing Lady (Farland) was slightly ahead of Race Call (George) at the end of five furlongs in 1.3. The former is a brilliant track mare, but Race Call invariably does better with the colours up. He has never looked better than at present and if he goes on the right way in the interim his Easter mission is to be the Ellerslie mile.

Luerece (Toki) was kept up to her work to run three furlongs in 37J. Royal Fire (Cole) went well for a hurdler in getting to the end of half a mile in 51. He has made good progress since Opuuake.

Captain Blight (Ffyer) beat Flying Hostess (Monkley) over a similar distance in 51 1-5. The former should be well suited by the roomy Stratford course. On the outside of the course proper, with the pegs well out, Prime Quality (Cole) led Dark Eagle (Monkley) over the early stages of five furlongs, but there was little between the pair at the finish in 1.44, a smart gallop. Biding engagements; announced for Stratford include:—P. Burgess, Lowenberg, Forest Glow; S. Edwards, Notium, Trilitha, Captain Bligh, Naughty Marietta (Anniversary Handicap) ; G. P. Dowrick, Student Prince; L. Monkley, Fafner, Amoroso, Dark Eagle; A. Bennett, Golden Orchid (Farewell Handicap); H, Fryer, Killing Lady; L. Pepperill, Swift Sand ; J. Toki, Lucrece; S.
