KARORI CROQUET CLUB

Presentation Of Trophies There was a very good attendance of members and honorary members of the Karori Croquet Club yesterday, for the annual presentation of trophies. .Mrs. Kearney, president of the club, before asking Mr. Burn to present the trophies, expressed great pleasure at the excellent progress members of the club had made during the season. Mrs. Lowery, with her partner, had won the handicap doubles at the Dominion tournament; Mrs. Toms had won the level singles, and had been runner-up in the handicap singles, at the Wellington tournament; Mrs. Gilbert had been runner-up in the B grade level singles at the local tournament; Mesdames Harper and .Steel, Howell and Sutherland, had won the Intermediate Shield for the inter-club matches for the past two seasons. The club had also held the Association Ferns and McKenzie Cups for a considerable period. Mr. Burn congratulated the club on the excellent progress of the members, and said he felt sure that before long the club would produce a croquet champion. Following is a list of the prizewinners :—

A grade champion, Mrs. Flint; runnerup, Mrs. Toma. Intermediate champion, Mrs. Sutherland; runner-up, Mrs. Howell. B grade champion, Mrs. Earl; runnerup, Mrs. Hustler-Smith. The Lady Johnson Hose Bowl, for handicap singles, Mrs. Sutherland. The Hamilton Vase for the runner-up, Mrs. Easterbrook Smith.

B grade handicap, Mrs. Hastier Smith. Handicap doubles, Mesdames Toms and Gilbert; runners-up, Mesdames Lowery and Hawke. Consolation: A grade, Mrs. Steel; B grade, Mrs. Phillips. Miss Peterson’s (Newtown) trophy for the most improved B player, Mrs. Hamilton Dixon. Mrs. Kearney, president, and Mrs. Bradnock, captain, both received a presentation from the membern of the club. The secretary, Mrs. Hustler Smith, and treasurer, Mrs. Harper, received tokens of appreciation.

Competitions were held during ‘be afternoon, and were won as follows:— Tunnel. Mrs. Howell; squares, Mrs. Earl; peg, Mrs. Maxwell.
