Heavy West Coast Rain By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, March 28. Heavy rains and probably a cloudburst occurred this afternoon ami caused washouts in the Mestport-Seu donville railway and road. Between Waimangaroa and Birchfield a gap of over 300 feet was made in the railroad embankment, leaving rails and sleepers suspended in the air. Further out, at Kerr’s Crossing, a gap of 50 feet was made in the railway, and the approach to a road bridge washed away. Temporary repairs were made to the road and buses at Granity were called into service to make the connection between Granity and Maimangaroa. The 4.10 p.tn. train to feeddonville ran out tfs far ns M aimangaroa and then returned.
