Fingers And Toes

Fashion Considers New Stockings And Qloves ASHION, having turned such an important spotlight on accessories, has not overlooked stockings and gloves. First in popularity are the sheer stockings, and next come the new crepe textured stockings. These are popular because they give that smooth suede appearance so flattering to the legs, and because they are obtainable in so many of the popular shades. All the brighter sun tan colours are the most sought after, while second in popularity only are the .softer pastel tonings. The new iridescent stockings have not proved so popular as was expected, and the knee-length hose and the stockings with the mesh toecap, designed especially to wear with sandals, also lost favour quickly. A very short time ago gloves were obtainable only in the quieter shades of black, brown, grey, navy blue, white, and beige. Now added to these colours are scarlet, mauve, yellow, green, purple, and two or even three-toned gloves. Fashion’s latest whim has produced gloves with a scarlet back and a black palm, yellow fingers and cuff sewn with bold nigger brown seams; all green gloves, with the two middle fingers in a contrasting shade: or gloves with large circular cuffs in vertical stripes of*two or three colours. A slenderising effect is gained by gloves whose seams run between the third and fourth fingers, instead of along the outside of the hand. Some of these seams are in the same shade as the glove, while others stand out in a bright toning or contrasting shade. Apart from "the colouring of the gloves, the various forms of decoration are whimsical. In place of the qsual pointing there is lacing, thonging, and stitching, and small pompons, keys, knots and dice hang from the cuffs. For morning, slip-on gloves of washing doeskin, suede, or some bright fabric are worn, and for afternoon wear, longer gauntlets, more trim, and with some fantastic decoration are popular. Dull grey, studded with steel discs, will match any ensemble, and long navy blue gloves, embroidered with small posies of flowers, or dotted with fluffy emerald green and crimson pompons are novel. For more formal occasions, the Continental kid gloves are obtainable in all the lovely soft pastel shades. These have thick rolls edging the cuffs —large creamy pearl buttons catching the sides and heavy loops forming a bracelet round the wrist.

For the evening, there is a choice of colours to match your frock, and gloves are mostly long, buttoning with five or six buttons. Here glove,s are plainer, embroidered faintly, possibly with gold or silver thread.
