The first “teddy bears” were made as a compliment to Theodore Roosevelt, a former President of U.S.A., and a relation of the present President. He was very fond of big-game hunting, particularly bear-hunting. • So the American toymakers produced the beloved cuddly bear that has been a favourite with so many tinies, and, as the President was called Teddy by his family and friends, they christened it “teddy bear.”

Stockings with “zipp” fasteners up the back seam are being patented by an ingenious designer in Hollywood. A very fine slide of rubberised material is being perfected which gives the appearance of a rather thick seam, and the idea has two advantages—it makes stoakings much easier to put on and saves ladders, and it also offers an opportunity of contrasting “zipps” to tone with a costume or accessories.
