Vice-Regal. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway returned to Wellington yesterday morning from Ngaruawahia, having made the return journey via Taupo. ' Lord and Lady Galway were present at the first of the Personality Concert series which was given in aid of the Wellington Crippled Children’s Society in the Town Hall last night. Ministerial. The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, will leave Wellington for Westport to-night. The Hon. W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, returned to Wellington from the Waikato yesterday. The Hon. Mr. Justice Callan, who is attendirig a sitting of the Court of Appeal in Wellington, visited Auckland during the wek-end and returned to Wellington yesterday in the Limited express. , Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, arrived at Wellington from the south in the steamer express during the weekend. Professor James Shelley, Wellington, director of the National Broadcasting Service, was a passenger to the south in the steamer express last night. Mr. A. S. Cookson, Dunedin, is in Wellington attending a sitting of the Arbitration Court in connection with the woollen mills dispute.
Mr. R. D. Horton, of Wilson and Horton, Ltd., Auckland, returned to the north yesterday on the afternoon express from Wellington. Mr. R. McPherson, general manager of the New Zealand Wheat Committee, returned to AVellington yesterday from Sydney by the Awatea. Mr. T. B. MacFarlane, councillor of the Royal Agricultural Society of New South AVales, arrived at AVellington yesterday by the Awatea. Major A. Murray Jones, Sydney representative of the De Havilland Aircraft Company, Limited, is at present In AVellington..
Mr. J. E. Carmody, passenger representative of Johnston and Company, Limited, will leave for Sydney to-day by the Swartenhondt. Captain F. W. Collins, who has been appointed master of the Union Company’s new freighter Korowai, left AVellington last night in the Limited express for Auckland. He will sail in the Aorangi to-day for England. Mr. A. D. McGavock, Director of Forestry, was a passenger on the 3 o’clock train from AVellington for the north yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Herbert Staton, previously of the Auckland and Wellington staffs of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency Ltd., has been appointed Dunedin manager of the company. Mr. J. M. A. Hott, AVellington governing director of J. Hott, Ltd., will leave in the Aorangi from Auckland to-day. He will be away from the Dominion for about five months on a business trip to America and England. Lieutenant-Colonel F. Bailey and Lady Janet Bnilev. relatives of "Lord Craigmyle, managing director of the P. and O. Steam Navigation Company, arrived at AVellington yesterday by the Awatea.
Mr. AV. J. Mason was appointed act-ing-president of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. at a meeting of the board of directors last night. He will occupy the position during the absence of Mr. R. H. Nimmo, who will leave shortly on a world tour.
Mr. R. H. Nimmo, president of the Y.M.0.A., Wellington, who will leave shortly on an extended tour abroad, was presented with a gold watch chain, with tiki charm, at ir meeting of the board of directors of the association last night. The presentation was made by Mr. AV. J. Mason. In replying, Mr. Nimmo said he intended visiting many of the principal Y.M.O.A.’s in North America and Europe.
