University Club’s Annual
Meeting LARGEST ATTENDANCE FOR SEVERAL SEASONS The annual meeting of the University Rugby Football Club, Wellington, was held last night, Professor Boyd-Wilson presiding over one of the largest attendances for several seasons. The annual report stated that six teams were entered in the Wellington Itugby Union’s competitions, but none proved very successful. The senior team had only six of the previous years side, necessitating the building up of a new combination. Due to the keenness ot the players and the expert coaching of Mr. J. H. Parker, the team had done well. New Zealand University blues were obtained by P. Reid, R. B. Burke and H. R. C. Wild. Thanks were due to the club coaches.- The balance-sheet showed a sound position. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as tollows :—Patron, Professor H. B. ■ Kirk ; president, Professor Murphy; club captain, Mr. A. P. O’Shea; deputy club captain’ Mr. E. Blacker; secretary, Mr. B. C. Campbell.: Mr. S. D. Eade; committee,.Messrs. R. 1. Corkill, W. Parker, R. P.-.Hausen, R. Buddle; delegates to Wellington Rugby Union.- Professor Boyd-Wilson, Messrs. J. Parker and D. Eckhoff. _ On the motion of Mr. E. Blacker, Professor Boyd-Wilson and Mr. H. H. Cornish, K.C., were elected life members of the club. : Reference was made by Mr. Bljjcker, to the long? service rendered by both to the club. . • In acknowledging the honour on behalf'of Mr. Cornish and himself, Professor Boyd-Wilson expressed pleasure at the large attendance, which was one of the best for some time, and augured well for the incoming season. , A short address was given by Mr. J. H. Parker, coach of the senior team. KAIWARRACLUB . . .. At the annual general meeting of the Kaiwarra Rugby Football Club there wag a large attendance of players and sup- ■ porters. The annual, report andithe bal-ance-sheet,? which showed the club to be in a healthy financial position, were adopted. , , During the last .season the .club sub’sidised the erection of a hew dressingshed on the ground to the. extent of £2O, : and hopes- are high that before Jong the; water will be laid bn 'for showers after games and training nights. _ Several new members were nominated for the coming season. Three ’ teams were entered for the competitions last year, junior B-, third and fifth grades and 'all did very well,, the juniors winning the 1937 championship. The election of officers for the coming rear resulted as follows: Patron. Mr. G. H. Mackley, C.M.G.; president. Mr. R. E. Flaws; secretary, Mr. G. J. Mutton; ■•chairman of committee, Mr. E. Schroeder; management committee. Messrs. D. Evans, R. Woolcot. N. Wodd, R. Hobbs, D. Garguilo. I. Flaws, S. Palmer, F. Smith,' T. Griffin; A. Flett; vice-presi-dents are the same as for last year with the addition Of Messrs. J. McLean. S. Clarige, and J. Robins, sen.; coaches, Messrs. I. Flaws, H. Tyrer, S. Palmer; delegate to Wellington Rugby Union, Mr. G. Mutton; auditor, Mr. T. Allwood.
It was decided to make application to enter a team in the senior B division, junior B and third grade.
