POLICE FUNERAL
Service For Mrs. C. Ledger
The funeral of Mrs. Catherine Ledger, for 21 years police matron at Wellington, was attended by nearly 100 of the Wellington police and representatives from other centres yesterday afternoon. The detachment marched from the Taranaki Street police station to St. Mary of the Angels’ Church. Boulcott Street, where the service was held. The bearers were: Sergeant V. Cosgrave, Sergeant G. Payne, Sergeant A. .Johnston, Sergeant J. Gracey, Constable M. Hunt and Constable J. Pointon. Mrs. Ledger was sister of Commissioner D. J. Cummings and senior matron for the Dominion. . After leaving the church the parade formed up again and marched to Ghuznee Street, where the men boarded buses which took them to the Karori Cemetery. Among those taking part in the parade were Superintendent D. C. Fraser, Inspector Lander, Wanganui, Inspector ,1. Sweeney, Sub-Inspector D. J. McLean, Sub-Inspector J. A. Dempsey and Sub-Inspector J. Carroll. Sergeant P. Munro was in charge.
