Heavy Losses By Japanese The following cablegram was received by the Chinese Consul in Wellington from Hankow yesterday: — ’‘-“General Li Tsung-yen, commanding the Chinese troops on the Tsin-pu sector, wired from the south of Shantung yesterday stating that our right flank attacked over 10,000 of the enemy north of Linyi and routed them. The rest of the enemy fled to Chuhsien and Yishui and are being pursued by our troops. In this battle, the enemy suffered very liQgvy casualties, including one regimental commander and several battalion commanders.

“According to the latest news from the northern sector of the Tsin-pu railway, our troops, yesterday, put up a most stubborn defence against the enemy attacks, both sides sustaining heavy casualties. "Yesterday, our air force saw a large force of enemy troops on the march north of Tungshien, and bombed them, killing over a thousand. They also destroyed over 10 armoured cars and tanks. On their way back, our planes met two enemy bombers returning from Hsuchow, and after a three-minute battle in the air, we brought both of them down. Yesterday, General Yen Shi-san wired from Shansi to Hankow stating that in two days the enemy suffered from 500 to 1000 casualties.”
