Hints For Housewives

Soiled Cushions. F OR grease or oil spots on silk or rayon cushions rub the spots gently with a piece of soft material soaked in oil of eucalyptus and leave to dry. Oil of eucalyptus will remove grease and oil spots from any material, and is excellent for cleaning waterproof coats. Scorched Linen. Really severe scorches and those of long standing can be removed in the following manner: Cut a fresh cake of yellow soap and dip it into water. Rub over and round the scorched area till you have laid on a thick paste. Then place the article in a strong sunlight for several hours. Take in and wash out in the usual way.

It may be necessary to repeat the process more than once, but it has not been known to fail. New or slight scorches can be removed if you dip a rag in cold water, soap it well, and rub off the mark.
