WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

Mrs. McKenna presided over a good attendance at a recent meeting of the Kahutara Women’s Institute. There were some excellent entries for the best bloom competition, which was won by Mrs. Siemonk, with Mrs. Welsh second. Mrs. George was first in the buttonhole competition, and Mrs. Pope was second. The junior competition for a hand-worked tea towel was won by Miss B. Warrington, with Miss L. Hood second. Miss Warrington also won the shoulder-spray competition, with Miss P. Nikolaison second. Mrs. T. Duffy was the winner of the points prize. A roll-call. “How I spent Christmas,” proved to be most amusing. Porirua. At a recent meeting of Hie Porirua Women’s Institute, Mrs. Ryan presided and welcomed the members. Sympathy was expressed with two federation members who have recently suffered bereavements. Nominations for federation and institute committees were asked for, and delegates were elected to attend the federation annual meeting. The forthcoming handicrafts exhibition was discussed and members were reminded to prepare their exhibits. A talk about Paris and Versailles, illustrated with photographs, was given. Mrs. Evans won two competitions. Plimmerton. The annual meeting ot the Plimmerton Women’s institute was held recently. There was a goyd attendance of members, and the principal work of the meeting was the election of committees for the year’s activities. Mrs. Burd was re-elected president. Mrs. Synott, a visitor from Otaki, • gave a very interesting talk on the aspirations of the institute creed, which was helpful to old and new members alike. Mrs. Hume moved a very hearty vote of thanks to the speaker. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very pleasant afternoon to 1 a close.
