WAIWETU GOLF CLUB

First Year On New Links Reviewed The twenty-eighth annual meeting of the Waiwetu Golf Club was held recently. There was an excellent attendance of members and, in the absence of the president, the club captain, Mr. G. R. Millward, reviewed the past year s activities. Pleasure was expressed that the first year of the elub at its new links at Upper Hutt had been so successful, both in the ■'olfing sense and financially. The course had been kept in first-class condition throughout both winter and summer seasons and members were not slow to appreciate the pleasant conditions , that had obtained throughout the year. Thanks were expressed to all those who had assisted the club during the course of the year. The following officers were elected for the eoming season:—Patron, Mrs. R. C. Kirk; president, Mr. T. J. Harvey; vice-presidents, Messrs. Barker, Adamson, Mawby, Scrimshaw, Pulley and Maitland; club captain, Mr. G. R. Millward; hon. secretary-treasurer, Mr. F. K. Maefarlane; hon. auditor, Mr. W. J. Munro; hon. solicitor, Mr. J. J. Garbett; committee, Messrs. Gill, Watts, Marsden, Newell, Sherwood, Clarke and Garbett. It was decided to begin the 1938 season on Sunday, March 20, the official opening to he at 1 p.m. During the afternoon a Canadian mixed foursome bogey match will be played. Waiwetu Ladies’ Club Mr. G. R. Millward presided at the annual meeting of the Waiwetu ladies. He congratulated the ladies on a successful season and paid a tribute to the manner in which they had assisted the club generally throughout the year. The following officers were elected: — Club captain, Miss I. Horman; secretary, Miss W. Reid; committee, Mrs. Newell, Misses Thodey, Tayl.ir, Milne and Findlay. Shandon Ladies’ Club The tenth and eleventh rounds of the Summer Cup were played recently by members of the Shandon Ladies’ Golf Club. In the former Mrs. Sutton gained three points, with 113-35-78; Mrs. Sotham, two points, with 106-22-84; and Mrs. Maeaskill, one point, with 118-33-85. In the latter round Mrs. Pope gained three points, with 109-31-76; Mrs. Hole, one and a half points, with 110-27-83; Miss King, one and a half points, with 117-34-83. The final round will be played next Wednesday. Belmont Club’s Annual Meeting The first annual general meeting of the Belmont Golf Club was held last week. There was an attendance of about 25 members, with Mr. C. i J. McGibbon in the chair. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report, said that the club’s progress since it formation in June of last year had be'en most encouraging. The finances were in a very healthy condition, and the membership at the close of Inst season was 45. With improvements to the course, and an increase in membership this year, there was every indication that the forthcoming season would be even more successful than the last. Opening day was fixed for Sunday, March 27. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —Chib eaptain, Mr. N. Denton; deputy duh captain. Mr. C. Awdry; management committee. Mrs. G. Spence, Misses D. Stringfellow I and E. Hepburn. Messrs. G. Clark. R. | Homershani. J. Rudman and R. Shannon ; hon. secretary-treasurer. Mr. R. 11. Kilin ister; hon. auditor, Mr. J. Morley. Moruington Club In the 18 holes stableford competition, played in conjunction with the Summer Cup, on the Mornington links on Sunday. R. W. Williams started off the day by holing his tee shot at the short first hole. 110 yards, much to the. enjoyment of his fellow members’. His total of 31 points was also the winning total, the next best cards being G. Estall. J. Watkins, and C. N. Aaniodt. each 30 points. In the bogey competition E. J. F. Andrews and C. W. Myers tied for first place, with cards of 2 down.
