OBITUARY
Mr. H. M. Peacock After a short illness the death occurred iu Masterton on Sunday of Mr. Henry Maurice Peacock, of the flrm of Peacock and Cook, dentists, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. A son of the late Dr. Francis Peacock, Mr. Peacock was born in Surrey, England, 56 years ago, and come to New Zealand in 1921, when he was associated with Government dental work. In'the following year he went to Masterton, taking over the practice of Mr. Kemble Welch, and while in the Wairarapa identified himself with practically every movement for the good Of the district, At the time of his death he was president of the Y.M.C.A. and the Masterton Swimming Club and was a vestryman of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. For.a number of years he occupied u seat on the Masterton Borough Council, and was a prominent member of the Masterton Rotary Club, of which he was a past-president. Mr. Peacock, who was one of the few men in New Zealand to have the distinction of being an hereditary Freeman of the City of London, was a member of the Masterton Masonic Lodge No. 19. Educated at Guy’s Hospital, London, he took his L.D.S.R.C.S. degree there, and was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, London. His professional activities in New Zealand were known far beyond Masterton, for he was examiner in dental subjects at the Otago University, and for the past four years was engaged in important dental research work.
Mr. Peacock, who was married in England, is survived by his wife and three daughters, one of whom was born in New Zealand. Mr. H. W. Clothier The death occurred at a private hospital in Auckland recently of Mr. Henry William Clothier, an eminent engineer associated with the electrical engineering industry in England and the United States of America. His passing will be a great and severe loss to the industry. Mr. Clothier, under the auspices of the Institution, of Electrical Engineers, London, had undertaken to rea'd before the New Zealand, Australian and South African branches a paper he had submitted and which was read early in January in London by his co-author. He had almost completed his New Zealand tour when he was taken ill at Auckland. In his early days he was associated with the late Dr. Ferranti and subsequently joined the technical staff of Messrs. A. Reyrolle and Company, Limited, of Hebburn-on-Tyne, becoming the managing director of the company. Mr. Clothier was also closely associated with Sir Charles Parsons Company, Limited, and J. El. Holmes and Company, Limited, both of Newcastle-on-Tyne. He was a member of the council of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, and took a prominent part and interest in all its proceedings. Mrs. Eleanor Hoile Brown , Mrs. Eleanor Hoile Brown, widow of Mr. James Clark Brown, M.P., died in the Wellington Public Hospital on Sunday at the age of 92. Mrs. Brown’s first husband was Dr. Hoile, who practised in the Lawrence district, Otago, in the ’sixties. Mr. J. O. Brown, her second husband, was the member for Bruce in 1870 and for Tuapeka from 1870 to 1890. When he was on a trip to England in one year an election occurred unexpectedly. Mrs. Brown, however, was quite equal to the emergency. She addressed election meetings on her husband’s behalf and had the satisfaction of seeing him returned at the head of the poll. After his death she resided in Napier. She was a well-known figure there as well as in other parts of New Zealand. The funeral will take place at the Karori Cemetery to-day.
