LOST CONCESSION
Bulk Petrol Consumers
A request that the Government should amend the definition of the term “bulk consumer” in the . Motor Spirits Prices Regulations. 1938, to include certain users of petrol at present excluded is contained in a question which Mr. W. A. Bodkin (Opposition, Central Otago) gave notice in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. Bodkin intends to ask the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, whether he is prepared to amend that definition to bring under the heading of bulk consumers all small carriers, contractors, farmers, and fruit-growers who are large consumers of petrol, but whose consumption is less tiffin 4800 gallons a year. In a note to his question, Mr. Bodkin said the regulations gave an undue advantage to the large carrying companies and removed a concession of 3d. a gallon that thousands of people engaged in primary production had enjoyed for years.
