Wellington and Star Competitions . PETONE EIGHT TRAINS Saturday proved the beat afternoon Wellington rowing clubs have so far experienced this season. There was a light southerly,- but water conditions on the Oriental Bay course were almost perfect and crews from the Wellington and star clubs were able to catch up on their club fixtures, which had been seriously delayed by the long spell of northerlies. At Petone on Saturday the water was not suitable for rowing, but yesterday the Petone eight which is to represent IV ellington at the championships at Wanganui at Easter took the water for a practice- row. Star Club. The Star club completed its presidents fours, tlie final being wou by F. Tintereu (str.), Q. Kingham (3). J. Coates (2), E. Gray (bow), who beat W. Fitzgerald (str.), K. Hermans (3), R- Hill (2), W. Young (bow), by five lengths. A good race resulted iu the final of the Fitzgerald fours, M. Willis (str.), L. Stroud (3), R. Hodson (2), A. R. Burge (bow) beating J. Watson (str.), J. 1. Thodey (3), H. Hall (2),, W, Hawker (bow) by half a length after the crews had been together practically all the way. The second heat of the senior fours resulted in a win for J. Peters (str.), C. Pert (3), E. Macpherson (2), E. Dawson (bow) from K. May (str.), J. Matson (3), K. Frazer (2), E. G. Webb (bow). Peters's crew was leading by half a length with 50 yards to go, when Watsons stretcher broke and the crew pulled up. The final resulted :—-- G. C. Cooke (str.), G. C. Broad (3), H. Bevan (2), J. Cowles (bow) 1 J. Peters’s crew " Peters’s crew begau the better and at the quarter-mile had a slight advantage. Half a mile further ou Cooke’s crew drew level and went on to wind handily by 2i lengths. Both crews rowed well, . but Cooke's men displayed greater stamina. Yesterday a party of eleven club members took one of the whaleboats to Somes Island. Wellington Club. The Wellington club made good progress with its Old Members’ Fours, the final of which is to be rowed next Saturday, Old Members’ Day. Leading all the way in the first heat, O. Wanes (str.), W. McLean (3), F. R. Bock (2), G. N. Harrison (bow), bent E. Marchant (str.), W. Mclvor (3), C. IV. Carter (2), W. J. Sewell (how) by two and a half lengths. The second heat resulted in a win for R. Nicholson (str.), S. Watson (3), AV. O’Donnell (2), J. Francis (bow), from R. J. Treguetlia (str.), K. F. Fish (3), E. Hollander (2), D. Fitzjames (bow), with about a quarter of a mile to go Tregurtha's crew was about half a length behind when Fitzjames, a novice oarsman, caught a cl-ab and Nicholson’s crew went on to wiu by six lengths. In the third' heat, A. Manning (str.), AV. Morgan (3), A. Clouston (2), E. Dunnett (bow) -beat J. Alexander (str.), J. Kofoed (3), G. Hayton (2), P. Porter (bow) by three lengths after being in the lead all the way. In the semi-final, Manning’s crew drew tlie bye and AVares’s crew beat Nicholson’s crew by two lengths. Yesterday, with tlie wind from the north, the annual Ladies’ Plate Day competition was held. Results, were : — First heat: A. Maiming and G. N. Harrison (Miss M. Christiansen) beat R. Nicholson and D. Mayo (Miss P. Smith) by two lengths. Second heat: E. Marchant and G. Costello (Miss L. Butler) beat A. Anderson and A. Clouston (Miss M. Eade). Third heat: R. J. Trcgurtha and J. De Rouflignac (Mrs. E. AVoolcott) beat AV. Morgan and A. Osborne (Mrs. G. Costello) by half a length.. Fourth heat: K. F, Fish and E. Rol-. lander (Mrs. W. Jury) beat AV. McLean and S. AVatson (Mrs. R. J. Tregurtha) by two feet.

First semi-final: Manning’s' crew beat Marchant’s crew by a length. Second, semi-final: Fish’s crew beat Tregurtha’s crew by three lengths. Final: Manning’s crew beat Fish’s crew by one and a half lengths, the winners showing superior blade work.
