“There are 370 teachers iu the Southland Education Boat’d district and the total salary bill is £170,000. That may seem a large sum, but there is still much leeway to be made up. Teachers are grossly underpaid, and no stone will be left unturned by the board to make z the salaries of teachers more in keeping with those of other State servants,” said Mr. F. G. Stevenson, a member of the Southland Education Board when speaking at the Blufl School jubilee banquet recently.
