MERCANTILE CRICKET

Management Committee Meets Mr. E. F. Casey presided at this week's meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League, an apology for absence because of illness being received from the chairman, Mr. J. J. Furlong. It was decided to extend an invitation to the Wairarapa Cricket Association to send a team to play the league representatives at Wellington on April 2. It was resolved to close the competitions on March 19, apd to leave March 26 as a free day for clubs to arrange fixtures as they desire. It was also agreed to play a match between the management committee and the umpires’ association on the same date.

Messrs. J. Young, S. W. Martin, and G. P. Aldridge were appointed a subcommittee to submit a report on the question of insurance for players and umpires injured in a match. Following are the positions of the teams in the lower grades:— B grade: Jasco, 36; Harbour Board, 34; Justice Department, 29; NivenClarke, 26; U.L.M., 26; Grey Cabs, 21; Smith and Smith, 21; Telephone Exchange, 20; Sargoods, 13; Pastimes, 7.
