RECORD DAY
14 Pldnes At Rongotai ’ TWO BAFFINS ARRIVE Fourteen machines, a record number, were housed in the hangar at Rongotai Aerodrome, Wellington, last night. The previous record was 13, on August 14, the day of the first Rugby football Test match between South Africa and New Zealand. A number of planes from other centres visited Wellington yesterday, and Wellington Aero Club pilots took full advantage of the glorious weather. It was a busy day for the Staff, some of whom were on duty from 5.30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The most important arrivals were three machines for the Wellington Squadron, Royal New Zealand Air Force. Two more Blackburn Baffins, which reached the Hobsonville Air Base for assembly a few weeks ago, were flown to Wellington via New Plymouth by Flight Lieutenant D. Taylor and Mr. H. C. Walker, arriving at 6 p.m. The other machine for the squadron was the Hawker Tomtit from Sockburn, which arrived at 6.15 p.m. It was flown, by Pilot Officer S. Meachin, who had with him Pilot Officer M. Archibald.
The Wellington Aero Club’s Moth had two trips to Palmerston North and hack, the pilots being Messrs. Hull and Gabites. Mr. Frank Gill flew, the Miles Magister to Blenheim and back, and the Marlborough Aero Club’s Hawk returned from Wellington to Blenheim.
