MANY NEW SCHOOL BUILDINGS
Auckland Education Board’s Big Programme Dominion Special Service. Auckland, March 10. A building programme of approximately £150,000 will be included in the estimates of the Auckland Education Bhard for the coining financial year, which holds the prospect of being’ one of the busiest the board’s officers, specially the architectural division, have had for many years. As it is, the architects are almost overwhelmed. Building was continuous throughout the current year, which will close on March 31, and the construction of both secondary and primary schools in various parts of the Auckland district lias taxed to the limit the working capabilities of the various departments. At present the architects are endeavouring to keep abreast of works already authorised. A good illustration of the labour and preparation involved in that department is given by the schedules for the intermediate school to be built at Te Awamutu. These include 13 sheets of drawings and 130 pages of specifications. There are 30 scheduled school buildings and additions to schools in hand, exclusive of teachers' houses and school dental clinics, authorised in the estimates for next' year. Teachers’ houses will bulk largely for the need is said to be pressing in all parts of the board’s district, and within recent months teachers in isolated areas have repeatedly requested the provision of reasonable accommodation. Some have to contend with very cramped quarters and others are' obliged to live in tents. ,
