SPECIAL CRICKET COMPETITION

Conditions Amended POINTS TO BE AWARDED FOR WINS The special competition, inaugurated by the Hutt Valley Cricket Association secretary, Air. H. N. Jones, to be decided on the average of runs scored per wicket, caused considerable discussion at the fortnightly meeting of the management committee. Last Saturday several teams played short, and in the opinion of Mr. Jones, teams that fielded full sides were distinctly at a disadvantage. To prevent teams fielding short and obtaininga high average when opposed to a full side, he moved: “That teams batting short be debited with ten wickets.” This was defeated, as in- the opinion of several of the committee, defaults would arise. A motion by Air. Sharper: “That retrospective to the commencement of the special competition, in addition to the average of rung scored per wicket, 10 points be awarded for an outright win and five points for a first innings win,” was carried. The treasurer, Air. J. R. Sharpe, reported that despite previous warnings the General Alotors’ club was behind m ground fees payments. It was decided to impose the full penalty for this breach, and to allow the General Alotors club until March 22 to fulfil its obligation. Failing this further action will be decided on at next meeting. Air. J. L. Alatthews presented a cup for the E grade competition. It wab reported that the Hon. AV Nash had agreed to present the trophies at the annual dance on Alarch 30. Championship Tables. The revised tables, in accordance with the committee’s resolution, now read: —
