This Far Echo

A bird saw the sky and he sang For he knew That God had been making it Gorgeously blue. And a boy in the woods was glad When he heard Thru’ the cool greeny aisles The song of the bird. He held in his heart, like a treasure The lay. And citywards walking He sang on the way. I heard him and pondered As I passed along, Of God, and the bird, and the boy. And the song. And I wrote the sweet thing that night For I thought Another should learn Of the gladness it taught. —Original, by Diary Grieg (17), Wanganui.
