Talks About Proposed Trade Treaty
(British Official Wireless.) (Received February 24, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, February 23. Mr. De Valera had an hour’s conversation with the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, at the House of Commons, and afterward the first formal meeting of the resumed discussions between Ministers of the United Kingdom and Eire took place. Mr. Chamberlain, Sir Samuel Hoare, Sir Thomas Inskip and Mr. Malcolm MacDonald were present. Discussions ranged over a wide field and embraced questions of partition, defence, finance and trade. Later discussions affecting trade and with a view to the conclusion of' a trade agreement were resumed between Mr. Lemass, Mr. Riain and Mr. J. W. Dulanty for Eire and Mr. W. S. Morrison and Mr. Malcolm MacDonald for the United Kingdom-
