Knock-Out Ends Fight In
Third Round LOSER TAKES TERRIFIC PUNISHMENT By Telegraph.—Press Assn.— Copyrights (Received February 24, 8.5 p.m.) New York, February 23. Joe Louis, 14st. 41b. (holder), knocked out Nathan Mann, 13st. 1141 b. (challenger), in the third round of a 15round heavyweight boxing title bout at Madison Square Garden. Louis was cautious in the first round, but in the second opened up. He swarmed all over Mann, a right to the head flooring Mann for the count of nine. Louis was beating Mann unmercifully at the bell. Mann suffered terrific punishment m the third round, being down for the count of three. Louis continued a savage attack on his helpless opponent, finally flooring him with a right to the jaw. There was an attendance of approximately 20,000, most of whom cheered Mann. Boxing critics termed the contest the most savage two-fisted onslaught in history. Mann tried desperately to make a good fight, but pitifully lacked the power to halt the champion’s smashing attack.
