A boat crew, from the French cruiser Jeanne d’Arc competed against the No. 1 crew of the Wellington division of the R.N.V.R. last evening in a race from the floating dock to a point abreast of the Jeanne d’Arc's quarterdeck. The French crew won by half a length. They rowed a boat considerably different in type from, that of the R.N.V.R., being about seven feet shorter, wider amidships, and not so high out of the water. Although six oars are customarily used, five were pulled for this event to correspond with the Wellington crew. Tiie visitors rowed a noticeably shorter stroke. The R.N.V.R. crew, which was entertained on board the Jeanne d’Arc after the race, was as follows: Stroke, Able Seaman J. Ross; No. 2, Leading Seaman R. E. Brownie; No. 3, Petty Officer G. King; No. 4. Leading Seaman N. Williams; bow, Able Seaman B. Burns; cox, Petty Officer K. W. Spark.
