WAIRARAPA TROTS

McDougall And Masterton Handicaps SUMMARY OF THE FORM (By Overcheck.) The Wairarapa Trotting Club has received excellent acceptances for its meeting at Clareville, and a successful fixture seems assured. "In several of the races a number of untried performers are engaged, and the element of uncertainty thus created will tend to make the racing interesting. Below will be found a brief summary of the form of the horses engaged in the McDougall and Masterton Handicaps, the two principal races on the programme. >

Eddie Tolnn has had five races during the current season, but so far has failed to earn anything toward his keep. Last season he registered one win and two placed performances out of nine starts. He is now six years of age and so is of an age when he should etill be capable of improving on past form. Hie winning performance was registered at Gore, when he went one mile and a half in 3.31 3-5. Golden Moness has raced on 11 occasions this season for two wins, a second and a third. At Geraldine in September she won over 10 furlongs and was placed third over the same distance, while at Westport in December she won over 12 furlongs in 3.30 and was second at two miles in 4.38 4-5. She is by Jack Potts from Wild Moness and now ranks as a four-year-old. Zincali to date has three wins, two seconds and a third to hie credit. He also is by Jack Potts and now ranks as a four-year-old. His winning efforts were registered at Kurow, Westport and Greymouth, while his latest placed performance was recorded at Hutt Park, where he went 3.20 1-5. He has not yet raced over two miles, but there is no reason why he should not run out a journey. Slippery Sam is a six-year-old gelding by Rey de Oro from Lady Bountiful. He has faced the starter on seven occasions this season for a couple of seconds, both at two miles. At Greymouth in December he recorded 4.36 2-5, but improved upon this at Nelson this month, when he went 4.32 2-5. Tan John is a straight-out trotter and usually races solidly. At Auckland in December he won over two miles in 4.39 2.5 on a soft track. He also has three placed performances this year over the same distance, his times being 4.46, 4.43 3- and 4.39 3-5. Bonnie Direct has had only two races. This was at Clareville on Boxing Day, when her displays were not encouraging. She is getting bn in years and improvement hardly seems likely. Savoldi is another Jack Potts, and ranks as a five-year-old. He has contested eleven races this season for a win and a second. At Westport in December be went 3.27 2-5, while he won the President’s .Handicap at Nelson in 4.32 1-5, defeating Slippery Sam by a length. Sir Frank is an Auckland representative. He has raced eleven times for one win, three seconds, and two thirds. His only placed performance at two miles was his third at Manawatu in November, his time being 4.41. In that race Trevor de Oro and Shrewdie recorded a dead-heat. Sir Frank now meets Trevor de Oro on 12 yards better terms. Sir Frank’s best times -at ten and twelve furlongs are 2.49 4- and 3.21 2-5 respectively. Trevor de Oro is a game little pacer, but his size may prevent him from reaching the highest class. In seven starts this season he has registered a first, two seconds, and a third. At Manawatu lie dead-heated with Shrewdie, covering the two miles in 4.38 2-5, while the same day he registered 2.47 when he ran second to Shrewdie. He is a promising sort. Captain Bolt is a trotter of class, but he has not always raced solidly. Out of seven attempts he has won two races and been second and third once. From a time point of view he has the best record; having gone 4.27 2-5 at Addington in January. He also has a winning record of 4.32 2 : 5 on the same track.

Hori Bingen is a speedy sort, but so far has failed to hold it for any distance. He won at Auckland in August over ten furlongs in 2.53 3-5, was third at Mannwatu. in 2.52, and . later won a mile at the Waikato meeting in December, his time being 2.15. Lord Wrack ran third to Shrewdie and Trevor de Oro at. Manawatu in November, recording 2.47 1-5. Electric Bell is speedy, but is difficult to get to the post. On this account she may not receive a great deal of support.
