PETONE REVALUATION
Possible Effect On Hospital Rate The revaluation of Petone is proceeding, and hopes are entertained that there will be a reduction of capital value, as was the case with Wellington. In that event the total of the hospital levy on the borough will be lessened proportionately. Some time ago -Mr. H. Firth, town clerk of Petone, prepared a table which detailed the increased costs to contributing bodies consequent on the rise for 1930-37 of £17,994 in the total hospital levy as compared with 1935-36. This table shows that, whereas Wellington city was making a saving of £3O-91 in the levy payable bn the increase on the basis of the -previous year’s valuation, the other contributing bodies, including Petone, were to the bad to a total extent that offset the loss to hospital revenue by the saving to Wellington. The details, giving the local body, increase in levy for 1936-37, 'increase on basis of the previous year’s valuation, and saving or loss, were:—Wellington city, £10.909 (19.077 per cent.), £14,000. £3091 saving; Hutt county, £l5BB (44.087), £937. £750 loss; Makara county, £507 (43.772), £340, £267 loss; Lower Hutt, £2366 (42.333), £l36s, £997 loss; Petone, £1516 (44.578), £833, £683 loss; Eastbourne, £357 (43.711). £2OO, £157 loss; Johnsonville, £174 (44.304), £96, £77 loss; Upper Hutt, £372 (42.242), £216, £156 loss.
