Increase In Efficiency Noted
By Telegraph—Press Association. New Plymouth, February 23. The standard of fire-fighting efficiency had increased greatly in recent years, commented Superintendent W. L. Wilson, Auckland, opening the annual meeting of the New Zealand Fire Brigades’ Officers and Members’-Institute. Mr. R. Girling-Butcher, inspector of fire brigades, said he considered the institute the most important single activity of the United Fire Brigades’ Association. The papers read at the conference were typical of the standard now reached by the service. The technique of fire fighting had been developed to a stage where only one or two leads were used except for exceptional fires. Officers were elected as follows:— President, Superintendent W. L. Wilson; vice-presidents, Superintendent A. Morrison, Messrs. R. M. Price, A. Craig, 11. E. Follas, A. .1. Bennett and Superintendent C. A. Woolley; executive council, Superintendents T. Anderson, P. Deare, A. Craig, J. W. Kane, C. W. Tyler, and H. J.'Price; treasurer, Secretary C. A. Osborne; secretary, Captain T. J. Watts; scientific and research committee, Superintendents W. L. Wilson, C. A. Woolley, A. Morrison, A. Craig, l and 11. E. Follas.
