FUTURE CHANGES Britain’s Internal And Foreign Policy MORE RESIGNATIONS? Difficulty Of Finding Mr. Eden’s Successor (Received February 23, 1.39 a.ui.) London, February 22. The political correspondent of the Associated Press says that future great and far-reaching changes, not only in Britain's foreign policy, but also in internal polities will be the sequel to Mr. Neville Chamberlain’s emergence over Mr. Eden. Cabinet reconstruction is certain in the near future to involve the retirement of at least two members, which, because of the week-end’s events, would be most embarrassing at the moment. Mr A. Duff-Cooper, First Lord of the Admiralty, and Mr. Oliver Stanley, President of the Board of Trade, whose handling (of their respective offices has been increasingly disappointing, may go, but Mr. Chamberlain, apart from the difficulty of discovering additional Cabinet members, has the greatest problem of appointing Mr. Eden’s successor.
There is not a single person in the front bench to command Parliament's and the country’s confidence as Foreign Secretary. Consequently Mr. Chamberlain has not hesitated at present to direct the Foreign Office himself, assisted by Lord Halifax, who, however he may be fitted for the portfolio, is unacceptable, because he sits in the Upper House.
NEW ZEALAND TRIBUTE TO MR. EDEN (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, February 22. “We must all regret the resignation ci that wonderful young statesman, Mr. Anthony Eden,” said the Hon. D. G. Sullivan when opening the New Zealand Rotary 'conference to-day. “He was the bulwark of the League of Nations, keeping Britain’s head high in international affairs without pandering to dictators or bowing to militarists,” said Mr. Sullivan. "If the ideals of Rotary' are spread throughout the world we may again see a strong League of Nations.”
