Fines And Cancellation Of Licences
CHARGES OF NEGLIGENT DRIVING A fine of £5 and the cancellation of his driving licence for six months was the penalty imposed on Owen Wares, 94 Fairlie Terrace, Wellington, charged before Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, with negligently driving a motorcar. Wares, whose car was involved in an accident near Tawa Flat on January 29, stated that liquor was partly responsible for his offence. A collision between a tramcar and a taxi driven by Alan Charles Stuart at the corner of Lambton Quay and Molesworth Street on December 11 was described when Stuart was charged with negligent driving and with failing to give way to a tramcar. Two men were stated to have been injured in the collision. A fine of £3 was imposed and defendant s licence was cancelled for a month. Dangerous driving was • the charge against Frederick Henry Mitchell, who was stated to have pulled his car out and passed a motor-lorry while travelling up the Paekakariki Hill, causing the driver of a down-coming lorry to drive into a post. A fine of £3 was imposed. A fine of £2/10/-’ was imposed on Joseph Gwynne Barnes for driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public. For failing to give his name after an accident he was fined 30/- , „ , William Patrick Cunningham was fined £1 for driving without due care and attention and 10/- for having no warrant of fitness for his vehicle. . Overtaking another vehicle without a clear view ahead cost Walter Leslie Kilner £2 and costs, and his licence was cancelled for a month. Two cars involved in a collision at tne corner of Mulgrave ’and Sidney Streets on January 18 were stated to have . no warrants of fitness. They were driven by William Alexander Mcllroy and Margaret Rose Byrne, each of whom was fined 10/-. John Leo Thomas Prendergast was fined 10/- for having no warrant of fitness for a motor-cycle and the same amount for having no driving licence. Robert Robson, whose motor-cycle had insufficient lights and no warrant of fitness, was filled 10/- on the first count and £1 on the second. The Highways Transport Company. Limited, was fined £2 for exceeding the licensed load of a vehicle. For passing a sationary tramcar Charles Wendham Willcox was fined 10/-, and for parking near a tram stop Colin Munro was fined a like amount. For a parking offence Charles Edward Yates was fined 10/-. For driving in the wrong direction in a one-way .street Gavin James Gaskin was fined 10/-.
