NAPIER WOOL SALE
Reports Of Selling Brokers , “Of the total of 29,637 bales (submitted at the third wool sale at Napier yesterday our contribution was 5914 bales, including 1800 bales of binned wools and of reclas’sed clips,” state the Hawke's Bay Harmers’ Co-operation Association Ltd. The bulk of their offering was Hawke's Bay grown, but the selection was not up to the usual standard of the February offering, due principally to the unfavourable climatic conditions during the late autumn and winter. The greater proportion of the wools catalogued was of topmaking style of carding length and inclined to be tender. At present super style wools of preparing length are scarce, and buyers had difficulty i'll finding lots suitable for orders of this type. Such lots realised good prices. There was a full bench of buyers and competition was general and keen within operating limits, compared with the January sale at Napier, set a standard of values generally as follows: Good style of 50’a quality and finer, Id. down ; average style wools of same quaHty, IJd. down; good style wools of 48/50’s quality on a parity; good style preparing wools, 44/46's quality, lid. better; average style of topmaking wools of 44’s to 50's quality, lid. down; lambs’ wool, lid. down; bellies, Id. down; necke and pieces, lid. down; aud locks, second pieces and crutchings, lid. down. The lower level of prices resulted in passings being more frequent than at the December or January sales. The firm sold either under the hammer or immediately after the sale 80 per cent, of its catalogue. The greatly decreased competition from the United States of America and the almost entire absence of Japanese competition may be considered the primary cause of the lower values, and in addition the unsettled political outlook is affecting wool as well as most other commodities.
The top prices realised in the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ catalogue were as follow: Roydon brand (Mr, H. G, Dalby), up to 133 d.; Pukeroa (Mr. it. Stewart), up to lojd.; crossed triangles (Mr. R. Mathews), up to 131 d.; Alpha (Mr. N. Nikolaisen), up to 13Jd.; ELJ over Waipuna (Mrs. A. Joblin), up to 13|d.; HBF over Co-op. (binned wool), up to 13jd. For lambs’ wool the highest price was 13Jd. for five bales of super of the Roydon brand (Mr. H. G. Dalby).

MURRAY, ROBERTS AND CO., LTD
Murray, Roberts and Company’s offering consisted of 5073 bales, but this quantity was reduced by some 200 bales due to the sudflen drop in values at the preceding sale in Wellington. At the January sale there seemed every reason to 'believe that a basis of values had been established at which growers would have been prepared to quit, states the firm, but the unexpected drop at Wellington, together with the heavy passings, did not at all give a very encouraging outlook. It would not appear that a very choice offering was submitted to buyers at Wellington, whereas in their particular catalogue at Napier Murray, Roberts were perhaps fortunate in being able to show a very fair average selection for the bulk of the offering, the balance being made up with some very stylish and attractive wools. The offering was tEe firm's best display this season.
This was mainly accounted for by the inclusion of the Messrs. Barkers’ wools from Gisborne, which evoked very favourable comment from buyers and the keenest of competition. Bidding was erratic and at times solely confined to two or three buyers.
Delivery appears to be well spread, with the Coutiqeiit the main purchasers. Compared will: last sale, super fleece was on a par with the last sales, and average and inferior sorts were easier by IJda pound. Skirtings were down Id. per pounclfand lambs’ wool was at par to Id. easier. DALGETY AND CO., LTD. Dalgety and Co.’s catalogue consisted of 5036 bales, of" which 90 per cent, was sold under the hammer. The selection was very mixed. A few super clips were submitted, but the bulk of the offering consisted of ordinary topmaking sorts, which were rather poorly grown and dull in appearance. Competition was very erratic, and prices in a number of instances were very difficult to follow, state Dalgcty’s. The Continent were again the principal operators, useful support coming from Russia for suitable types of good wool. Bradford was buying within strict limits, and Japan was very little in evidence. The outstanding feature of the sale was the remarkable prices paid for super-styled wools of 40’s tq 46’s quality, these types making-as high as 143 d., whereas a poor lot of similar quality realised nearer SJd. Compared with recent quotations super wools of flue quality show little change, but coarse super wools were a good penny dearer. Ordinary to inferior topmaking sorts were Id. to Jd. cheaper, pieces ami bellies Jd. lower, first lambs Id., and second lambs IJd. cheaper. Reports from consuming centres are anything hut bright, and growers who met the market may be very pleased before the season has ended for doing so. NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY, v
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report a quota of 3481 bales. The feature of the sale was the very keen demand for the coarser grades of crossbred wool when sound and of fair length and these wools were very firm on late rates, but for the ordinary and inferior crossbred, competition was very irregular and prices showed a drop of about Jd. pound, states the fiin>. Bellies and pieces, though eagely competed for, also showed a drop of a full Jd. a pound, Lambs’ wool elicited keen competition, but prices can be quoted as from Jd. to Id. a pound down. Crutchings of coarse quality where well picked over were keenly conspeted for, but poorly got up, inferior and seedy lots were not so easily disposed of except at low prices.
As at every stile this season the main competition same from the Continent, but Bradford were more in evidence at yesterday’s sale than they have been for some time. It now looks as if wool prices will not improve during the current. season.
The agency’s binned wools were very keenly competed for, and sold at full current rates. They report disposing of 85 per cent, of the catalogue under the hammer. Following are some of the prices realised :—
