HITLER’S REICHSTAG SPEECH
Closer Relationship With Italy And Japan Wanted FORCEFUL OUTLINE OF NAZI POLICY Demand For Restoration Of Colonies To Be Rigorously Pursued , By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Berlin, February 20. Opening the Reichstag, the Chancellor, Herr Hitler, made a forceful speech covering various points of Nazi policy. Crowds massed before loudspeakers in front of the Kroll Opera House and suburban cafes cheered every point of the speech. Prior to the speech, Herr Hitler entertained 741 members of the Reichstag at a banquet. ' Herr Hitler’s voice at first was clear and resonant, but at one stage he was coughing a good deal. The Fuehrer, in opening, made a historical emotional survey of Germany’s emergence from travail, in which, he declared, foreign nations “have not shown interest and help, but only hatred.” The speech included the announcement that additional production of armaments is being undertaken, and that the- demand for colonies is to be rigorously pursued, as Germany needs territories; also an indication of intensification of Germany’s relations with Italy and Japan. Germany's recognition of the Manchukuo Government was also announced.
