RODNEY TRAGEDY

Nineteen Bodies Now Recovered

(Received February 18, 5:5 p.m.) Sydney, February 18.

Five bodies of victims of the capsize of the launch Rodney, three girls and two women, were recovered by police in various parts of the harbour this morning. The bodies are those of Enid Cooksou (or Allen), aged 7 years; Violet Larsen, 15; Dulcie Rasmussen, 27: Betty Rasmussen, 10; Lorna Giles, 18. This, makes 17 bodies which have been recovered. Two still known to be missing are: Mrs. Erica Davies, 40, and Miss Nellie Scott, 20. inquiries, however, are now being made about a young couple and a baby who, according to two of the survivors, were in the cabin of the Rodney just before the vessel overturned.

Several of the .victims were the sole breadwinners of their homes. Three of the bodies recovered to-day were floating off Bradley’s Head, near where the launch foundered. Two others W’ere some distance away.

Although police searched until a late hour last night with powerful torches, the body of a girl which was sighted by the pilot of the Niagara off Bradley’s Head, thought to be that of a victim of the Rodney disaster, was not recovered.

The Lord Mayor’s relief fund has reached the total of £514. A later message stated: Two further bodies, making seven for the day, were found in the harbour this afternoon, but so fa)" have not been identified. The total dcathroil is thus 19.
