Very soon the people of the Chathams will be within touch of the Dominion daily, and instead of having to wait for news of happenings until a steamer reaches them, they will bo able to bear by radio of all events from the outside world. « « *
The New Zealand Society Of Accountants, which is now a very strong body, has decided to secure a suite of rooms for permanent occupation, and has taken a lease of the top floor of Messrs. Watkins, Hull, and Wheeler's new building m Johnston Street. This will give the society a large meeting and lecture hull, capable of seating two to three Jiundred people, and suitable for company and other meetings. There will also be an office of the society, library and reading rooms for the Accountant Students' Association. The* building is to be called the Accountants’ Chambers, and offices therein will be occupied by the owners (Messrs. Watkins, Hull, and Wheeler), Messrs. Williams, Hunt and Co., and Messi'S. Gold and Arcus.
At the general meeting of the Miramar Borough Council Inst evening, Mr. Brodie, ex-Mayor of Miramar, headed a deputation, the purpose being to dissuade the council from granting the subsidy of £2OO which it is proposed to grant the Ferry Company to continue to run their boats to Karaka Bay. It. was suggested that a motor-bus service be inaugurated, or, if traffic warranted it, an extension of the trams toward Karaka Bay. When the deputation withdrew, Councillor Bell, who presided in the Mayor's absence, assured them that their representations would be fully considered.
