Cycling Time Trial WIN FOR AUSTRALIA (Received February 9, 12.5 a.m.) Sydney, February 8. The Empire cycling time trial, 1000 metres, resulted: K. Porter (Australia), Ihr. lomin. 2sec., 1; T. Johnson (Australia), Ihr. 15min. 7sec„ 2; E. V. Mills (England), Ihr. lamin. 9sec., 3. Elmer, Ihr. lGmin. Osee., was sixth; Taylor, Ihr. IGmin. 7sec„ seventh; and Giles, Ihr.. 17min. 3sec., ninth. These three are New Zealanders. WRESTLING EVENTS New Zealanders Beaten (Received February. 8, 8.45 p.m.) Sydney, February 8. At tbe Empire Games, wrestling matches in the morning resulted: — WELTERWEIGHT. J. Podjursky (New Zealand) lost to T. Trevaskis (Australia). Both boys were even after six minutes, but then the Australian took the offensive and pinned the New Zealander. • F. Standee (South Africa) beat Podjurs'ky, who attacked, but the South African went to the top and won by a fall. MIDDLEWEIGHT. P. Shearsby (South Africa) outpointed L. Jeffers (England) after a hard encounter. T. Evans (Canada) defeated T. Hardwick (Australia) on points. Jeffers (England) beat H. Godfrey (New Zealand). Jeffers applied a crossbuttocks and took a flash fall. Shearsby defeated Hardwich, securing a fall with a body-prese. Evans beat Jeffers on points after an .even contest. . . ' , •Shearsby'beat Godfrey. Godfrey forced the pace and was ahead after six minutes. He continued to make a good fight, but with a minute to go Shearsby rolled and Godfrey got under and lost by a flash fall. • Yesterday’s results were: — Bantamweight. — Semi-final: Blake (Canada) beat Nolan (New Zealand) by one fall; Purcell (Australia) beat Cazaux • (England) on points. The final result of the contest was: Purcell (Australia), 1; Blake (Canada), 2; Cazaux . (England), 3. ’ . ... A contest for second place in the featherweight division between Genet (New Zealand) and Clarke (Canada) resulted in a win for Clarke, on points. Purchase (Australia) won the division. In the lightweight division a contest for second place between Thomas (New Zealand) and Harding (South Africa) was a willing mill, and had the crowd on its toes.
