Report Of Sale Of Paper Slipper Groundless

Christchurch, February 8.

A rumour over the week-end that Paper Slipper had been sold to go to India was groundless as negotiations were not entered into by his owner, Sir Charles Clifford. Paper Slipper went to Wingatui on Monday in company with the other representatives of the stable in Mulatto, Good Passage, Great Memory and Wild Chase.

Some riding engagements for Saturday’s programme at Wingatui are as follows : J. Jennings, Sea Fox, Adina, Ortyx, Pink Robe; G. Humphries, Paper Slipper, Mulatto. Good Passage; A. E. Ellis, Silver Streak, Passaform; L. J. Ellie,

Good Sun, Roseman, Combat, Raeburn, Uuick Return, Salient Knight; H. Hibberd, Studley Royal, Lumiere. Nightdress has been put aside tor a few weeks, but will probably be on hand again to race at Ricearton at Easter. The promising novice hurdler < 1 ink Comet, who was brought to last Saturday's meeting at Ricearton by his owner, Mr L. J. Fecbney, Ashburton, was left with C. McCarthy to bo trained for future hurdle racing.

The two-year-old filly Submit, by Bean Fere from Timid, purchased by Mr. G. R. Macdonald at last year’s yearling sales, has been broken in at Chokebore. She met with a slight injury shortly after coniin- from the North Island and was put aside until a few weeks ago.

The Westland Racing Club has received a very satisfactory list of nominations for its meeting on February 25 and 26. Ricearton stables have a strong representation, including Financiere, Kilrobe, Polistina, Lisnaeree, Gold Coat, Necessary, Flame Queen, Swordstiek, Rebel Chief, Waitaka Maroha, Wino, Rebel Star, Invoice, Delium. Wine Card, Acceptable, Gasmask, Gillie, Owlsgleam, Rotokino, Royal Amphora, Golden Dart and Solwit. Convivial pulled up very lame after her race on Saturday and has been returned by P. McGrath to her owner. Royal Amphora also showed the of his race and was not sent to Wingatui. Others who have had their trips cancelled are Great Bramble, Scuffle and Bright Prospect.

A three-year-old gelding who will race as Tantivi has attracted attention on Ricearton tracks of late. 'He is by Hunting Song from Grey Eyes, a sister to Knocklynn and Lancer, and ; s one of H. Nurse’s team. Tantivi has plenty of size and it was on this account that he was not commissioned earlier.
