Contracts At Lower Hutt

Successful tenderers for the erection of further houses under the Government’s housing scheme were announced yesterday by the Parliamentary Un-der-Secretary in Charge of Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee. He said a contract comprising 16 houses at Lower Hutt, had been awarded to G. R. Norman, a contract for six houses to 11. H. Beasley, Ltd., and another for 15 houses to the Fletcher Construction Co., Ltd. Tenders were now being called for tlie erection of a further group of houses under the scheme, comprising 11 single houses, and one two-house unit in Waterloo Road, and Raymond Terrace, Lower Hutt. Tenders close on Wednesday, March 2.

FORTY HOUSES OCCUPIED AT ORAKEI

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, February 8.

Witli about 40 of the State houses at Orakei occupied and another 30 rapidly nearing completion, the area is assuming the proportions of a residential suburb.

Occupants of new- houses who have children of school age are anxious for the completion of the new school now taking shape on high ground. It is hoped to have the building ready for use by about the middle of June.
