FAY COMPTON
Love Of Home Life It is rarely those people who are most in the limelight who seek what is known as “glamour.” Far more often the quieter pleasures lie nearer their hearts. An example of this is Miss Fay Compton, who arrived in New Zealand on Tuesday by the Wanganella. She confesses quite openly that her home means a great deal to her. “I have an old house in Kent,” Miss Compton said, “and there I live. I go backward and forward to London, but am happiest gardening, playing with the dogs and riding.” She plays all games, she says, but very badly. She has always been too busy to develop the technique. “But I can ride well,” she said, with a directness that is as charming as her deep voice. “It doesn’t sound very exciting, does it—just horses and dogs and a garden in Kent?” Miss Compton has a delightful naturalness of manner. She has wide, direct eyes, blonde hair, a good ligtire. •She' is entirely without pose or selfconsciousness, or affectation of any kind. She is one of the most versatile of English actresses and was Barrie’s favourite heroine.
