LOCATION OF TASMAN AIR TERMINAL
Support For Wellington LYTTELTON HARBOUR BOARD Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, February 2. “I think tlie time is opportune for Hie Lyttelton Harbour Board to support Wellington in its claim to become a trans-Tasman airport, and also to urge the claims of Lyttelton, at least for direct passengers and mail nigh. s from Sydney when a full load of pas sengers is offering.” This was stated by the' chairman -fl the Lyttelton Harbour Board, Mr. R. T. McMillan, in a report to a board meeting to-day. “Flights to and from Wellington have demonstrated that large seaplanes or flying-boats can safely use and be accommodated in the harbour,” said Mr. McMillan, after referring to the visit of the flying-boat Centaurus, “and though no public final pronouncement has yet been made by the Government or Imperial Airways, signs are not wanting that Auckland may be selected as the terminal for the England-Australia-New Zealand service. “The policy of the board,” he added, “has been to keep pace with the times. The sea-borne transport is now meeting air-borne competition, and the port of Lyttelton should seek and be prepared to accept the new business.” In reference to the visit of the Centaurus, Mr. McMillan said he understood that the commander, Captain J. W. Burgess, had told the harbourmaster that the mooring at Lyttelton 'was entirely satisfactory and that it was the best provided so far in New Zealand. The chairman’s report was accepted.
