FLYING-BOAT BASE
Suitability Of Wellington Harbour The suitability o£ Wellington Harbour as a base for flying boats, as evidenced by the ease with which the Centaurus was manoeuvred even in blustering weather, was commented on by the secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board in his report presented to last night's meeting. The report stated : — "The facility with which the Centaurus was manoeuvred in alighting and taking off in the localities in which she was moore’d, particularly in Evans Bay, when the flying-boat returned from its southern tour, and moored unaided in heavy rain, accompanied by a strong northerly wind, amply demonstrated the suitability of the harbour as a base for flying-boats. In a blustering wind the Centaurus rode comfortably at her moorings at Evans Bay. and before the flying-boat’s 'departure on the return flight to Auckland the commander, Captain J. W. Burgess, expressed his satisfaction in all the arrangements made by the board.
