Answers To Inquiries "Chemicus” (Petone): Making inquiries. Scented Verbena: This shrub may be increased from cuttings taken in early summer. Take cuttings four inches loug with a "heel” attached and strike them in sandy soil. If you have a cold frame your chances of success will be much greater.—C.M.W., Levin. Perennial Scabious: This plant thrives best in, a fairly deep, loamy soil. Where the soil is likely to dry out quickly, it should be mulched with old manure or lawn clippings.—Mrs. R. 8.5., Karori. Feeding Carnations: Carnations do not require a great deal of manuring, and, as a rule, soot-water is sufficient. If you cannot get this, use a weak solution of saltI petre, not. more than half a teaspoonfill to a gallon of water, once a week, watering as required with plain water between times.
