Features of the New 1938 Chrysler-Plymouth
MANY IMPROVEMENTS NOTED A new Chrysler-Plymouth of bolder design—with easier steering, safer vision and a score of new luxury features is presented as the 1938 model, marking this popular car’s tenth anniversary. Hailed as the outstanding model in the company’s ten-year career, the new Chrysler-Plymouth challenges comparison in riding performance and in style appointments for greater comfort and luxury. Further advances in soundproofing, even over last year’s model, which was noted for its “hushed” ride, set new records for quietness and smoothness. The new’ Chrysler-Plymouthjeads its price field for spacious bodies and roomy interiors, with ample stretching room for six passengers in all sedan models. Inches of extra shoulder room, head room and leg room feature its big all-steel body of safety design, built, by the pioneers of this method of construction. The over-all length is 194 inches, from bumper to bumper, 112-lnch wheelbase. Stylists have given the 1938 ear an entirely different appearance, of massive size and strength. A sleek new bonnet sweeps farther forward to meet the redesigned radiator grille, w’hich rises much more vertically than the sloping “face” of last year’s car. Features, in addition, which may be mentioned are: bigger headlamps of teardrop design; classically grille design; new bonnet design with five side panels, only the top section swinging open foi; routine service, water and oil; new windscreen for even better vision; safety-styled instrument panel with everything centred in unified assembly; new’ front seat mechanism to give eye-level for drivers of any height; new front seat cushion construction; all inside door handles and window controls curve safely back out of the way; ample space in all luggage compartments and built-in trunks: greater ease of control and safer operation; reduced clutch pedal pressure; new pistol hand-brake contjol; reduced steering gear ratio of 17.6 to one; body sound-proofing rubber cushioning eliminates metal-to-metal contact; balanced weight and balanced springs, hypoid rear axle; flat *<ar floor; rugged six-cylinder engine; power and economy; aluminium alloy pistons; four-wheel hydraulic brakes; and body, fenders, etc., rustproofed.
