Championship Results NEARING THE END Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, January 27. The Dominion croquet tournament was continued to-day in perfect weather. Most of the games are the best of three, being either open championships or finals. The match between F. C. Bryan and C. La Roche in the open championship resulted in a win for Bryan iu two straight games. Bryan had his first clip on rover in tw 0 turns. La Roche failed at the third hoop with Bryan’s ball near. Bryan made a complete round to the peg, and finished the game iu the next turn. In the second game, La Roche had the start and failed at the third hoop. Bryan hit in, and played an all-round break. La Roche failed- to pick up the shot, Bryan finishing 26-5. Iu the final of tlie second life ot the women’s championship between Mrs. Anstis (Palmerston North) and Mrs. Keys (Auckland), Mrs. Keys, in a split shot, weut boundary near the aopponent s ball early in the game. Mrs. Anstis. took advantage of this, and in two turns had her clip on rover. In the next turn MrsAnstis played a very pretty three-ball break and carried her clip to the peg, finishing tin the next turn, 26-18. In the final of the handicap doubles between Mesdames McLennan and Lowery v. F. L. Hartnell and Mrs. Drake, all four were playing very carefully. The former pair held the 1 lead all tlie way, Mrs. McLennan, in attempting a long peel at rover hoop baulked with her partner’s ball on _ the wire, but executed a beautiful jump shot, afterward peeling her partner, Hartnell left a baulk shot, picked up the shot, and played a very careful break from the fifth hoop to ’the peg, pegging out Mrs. McLennan’s ball. Hartnell then laid a rush for Mrs. Drake. Mrs. Lowery, however, in the next turn, hit the peg from the line. 26-18. Following are the results:— Open Championship. Third round: F. C. Bryan defeated C. La Roche, 26-8, 26-5; Mrs. Palmer defeated E. W. Veitch, 26-13, 26-10. Semi-finals: F. C. Bryan defeated J; Tannock, 26-9, 13-26, 26-13; Mrs Watkins defeated Mrs. Palmer, 26-20, 26-7. Women’s Championship. First life, final: Mrs. Simpson defeated Mrs. Brass, 26-15. v Second life, semi-final: Mrs. Anstis defeated Mrs. Mouatt, 26-14. Final: Mrs. Anstis defeated Mrs. Keys, 26-18. Men’s Championship. First life, second round: C. La Roche defeated F. L. Hartnell, 26-8, 26-8. Semi-final: C. La Roche defeated A. J. Gibbs, 26-13. Second life, third round: A. J. Gibbs defeated R. W. McCreath, 26-13. Final: C. La Roche defeated A. J. Gibbs, 26-12. Handicap Singles (2J and over). Fourth round: Mrs. McLennan defeated A. J. Gibbs, 26-17. Handicap Doubles. Final: F. L. Hartnell (New Plymouth) and Mrs. Drake (Gonville) defeated Mrs. McLennan (Timaru) and Mrs. Lowery (Wellington).
