Italy To Begin Huge Building Scheme FAST, MODERN SHIPS Conversion Into Warships If Necessary By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received January 26, 7.30 p.m.) London, January 26. The “Telegraph’s” Rome correspondent says that, according to the newspaper “11 Popolo di Roma, bignot Mussolini will shortly promulgate a decree for the construction of an entirely new mercantile fleet of 2,000,000 tons to be completed in 10 years. The ships will be the fastest and most modern in Europe. They will carry foreign freights ami bring foreign currency to Italy, and will also be useful for conversion into auxiliary warships if necessary.
