The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, will preside over the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth on February 21. Major-General Sir William Sinclair Burgess was a passenger to Wellington by the steamer express from the south yesterday. Mr. Justice Johnston presided over a sitting of the Court of Review at Napier yesterday, and on Tuesday will conduct the criminal session of the Supreme Court at Hamilton instead of Mr. Justice Ostler. Captain H. E. Erridge, Dunedin, is visiting Wellington. The Rev. Trevor Gilfillah, Eastbourne, Sussex, is a visitor to Auckland. Mr. W. Appleton left Wellington by the steamer express last night on a business visit to Dunedin. Captain H. Williams, Dunedin, was a passenger from the south by yesterday’s steamer express. Mr. Scobie Mackenzie, Wellington, returned from a visit to the South Island yesterday. Mr Justice Blair, who has been on a short visit to Auckland, returned to Wellington yesterday. Dr. T. L. Paget, Inspector of Hospitals, returned to Wellington yesterday after visiting the South Island. General T. R. F. Bates and Mrs. Bates arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. J. Hutton, Oamaru, a member of the Poultry Board, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday to be present at a meeting of the board. Mr. S. S. Millington, controller of stores for the Railways Department, was a passenger for Auckland by the Limited express last night. Mr. Mark Death, of the Fletcher Construction Company, Wellington, left for the onrtli by the Limited express last night. Professor E. R. Hudson, director of Lincoln Agricultural College, Christchurch, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Dr. H. G. Denham, professor of chemistry, Canterbury University College, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the steamer express. Mr. G. Stephenson, of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., Wellington, left for Auckland by last night’s Limited express. Major the Hon. H. H. Addington, England, is due to arrive in New Zealand before the end of the month with the intention of visiting places of interest. Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P. for Christchurch North, is visiting Wellington. He will leave Wellington for the south by the inter-island express steamer tonight. Mr. Justice Reed and Mrs. Reed, who have been spending a holiday at the Bay of Islands, will return to Wellington this morning. Mr. Justice Reed will open the Supreme Court session at Palmerston North next Tuesday. Mr. W. K. McConnell, lecturer in economics at the University of Sydney will be the guest of honour at a luncheon which is to be given next Wednesday by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Mr. John Tait, solicitor, Invercargill, and Mr. R. B. Meek, valuer, Invercargill, have been appointed members of the Southland Urban Mortgage Adjustment Commission for the purpose of the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act. Mr. W. Wallace, of the Customs Department, Christchurch, has arrived at Wellington on promotion to the head office of the department. At a recent gathering he was hade farewell by his fellow members of the Christchurch staff. In making a presentation on behalf of the stal'£, Mr. C. O. Trownson paid tribute to the ability and tact of Mr. Wallace and expressed regret at the loss of such a popular officer. Mr. D. 11. Butcher endorsed Mr. Trownson's remarks. Mr. Wallace suitably responded. Mr. J. L. Menzies, the new Assistant Trade Commissioner for Australia in New Zealand, and his wife, will arrive at Wellington on Monday by the Awatea from Sydney. Mr. Menzies, who has been attached to the Tourist and Commerce Department at Canberra, is a brother of the Hon. Robert Menzies, P. 0., Attorney-General to the Commonwealth Government, and one of Australia’s most brilliant speakers. Mr. J. Payne, the present Assistant Commissioner, who has been acting as commissioner since Mr. R. 11. Nesbitt left New Zealand, Is to leave Wellington by the Awatea for Sydney on February 21. He will probably be retained by the Commerce Department at Canberra for a short time before leaving Australia to take up the duties of Assistant Commissioner for Australia in Egypt.
